Perseverance & Bev’s Cancer Update

Dear Friends,

We received the best news in more than a year when we met with Bev’s oncologist yesterday. He knew Bev had been dealing with dealing with some challenging side effects from the new medication for her breast can that had metastasized to her bones. But he walked in said, “Finally, after a year, I have some good news. The cancer markers in your blood have gone down from 98 to 50! You’re not out of the woods, but this is good news.”

All we could think about was the many prayers from God’s people on Bev’s behalf. Perseverance on Bev’s part and perseverance on the part of those who have stood by her in prayer. James 1:2-4 says it this way: Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Saturday mornings I walk the neighborhood with Jordan, a great friend who lives next door. Jordan was training to run the Disney marathon. His training was going well until about a month before the race. Knee problems and then a bad cold threatened to derail all his hard work . . . but he persevered! And finished the 26.2 miles in his best time ever!

What challenge is facing you today? Bev and I are learning to pray, trust in Christ alone, and persevere.

Warmly in Christ,

Howard Dayton
