Business School

“Not to us, O  Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory” (Psalm 115:1).

On Friday, March 28, Bev and I experienced an unforgettable and humbling day.

We attended the dedication of the Howard Dayton School of Business Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Asbury University is a terrific Christian university that was founded in 1890. Dr. Sandra Gray is an amazing college president and visionary. The Lord has provided the business school with an outstanding Dean, Dr. Michael Kane.

I’ve been asked, “Why another business school with an MBA program? There are hundreds of business school s in our country. We don’t need another one. What’s different about this one?”

This is a legitimate question. So, here are the distinctive of this school of business:

  • Every course will be built on the foundation of God’s word. The Bible contains 2,350 dealing with money and possessions and hundreds of verses have application to business. There is no other school of business built on this foundation.
  • Every student will have a mentor for their entire time at the school of business. A business woman or man who is actually managing their business God’s way
  • Every student will be involved in an internship in a business managed God’s way.
  • Every class will be practical and have an adjunct professor attached to it who is actually applying what God says about operating a business. For example, if you are enrolled in an accounting class, how would you like to have Tracy Schmidt, the former CFO of FedEx, as your adjunct professor?

After the dedication service, a friend told me a story that captures whythis school of business is different. His daughter is enrolled in a prestigious college in their MBA program. In the beginning of one of her classes, the professor sneered, “Well, I hope that none of you students believe in the Bible!” She feels incredibly isolated and alone in her love of God’s word.

I’ve attached two links below reporting on the dedication. One from Asbury University and one from the Lexington, Kentucky newspaper
