The condition of our hearts

Dear Friends,

As I’ve continued to read about the kings in the Old Testament, one theme keeps surfacing: The condition of their hearts. God is super interested in our hearts, because that’s who we really are. “For man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).

So, what’s God say about our hearts?

  • The Lord knows our hearts. “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15).
  • We should pray to have the right heart. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation from my heart be acceptable in Your sight” (Psalm 19:14).
  • Reading God’s Word helps produce the right heart. “Your word have I treasured in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:10).
  • We are to be careful to protect our hearts. “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

Is there anything more precious than drawing into a more intimate relationship with Christ and seeing Him clearly? Join me in praying that the Lord will change my heart and yours. “Create in me a clean heart, Oh God” (Psalm 51:10).

The benefits of asking God to give us hearts that are pleasing Him, investing time in reading God’s word, and examining one’s heart produce the most wonderful results. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).

Warmly in Christ,

Howard Dayton

  1. Dear Howard, I was very sorry to” hang-up” on you while we were having a good conversation. This has been a difficult time for us, but I needn’t tell you that after all you & Bev have been thru. As your e-mail says, God cares about our hearts, and I know our hearts ( Bev’s, Howard’s, Annie’s and Bob’s) are centered on him, and the words He has taught us from His Bible . I will try calling you this week to make-up for the previous one. We send our love and Blessings to you both. In His Holy Name, Bob
