Hungry For God’s Word

Editor’s Note: In our final blog of 2023 is an encouraging Q4 update from VP of Global Operations, Nick Breach. I think Nick’s update is loaded with heartwarming news. As we plan to celebrate Christmas and its meaning—the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior—I hope you will think so too. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year…

Group of Business leaders in Vietnam

As I travel, the constant theme is that people are hungry for God’s Word, especially the Bible on money. They desire to read, study and learn what God’s Word says about money and how to apply it to their lives.

We are witnessing faithful financial disciples meeting in Vietnam and India to make and multiply financial discipleship leaders…

In Vietnam, business leaders recently gathered to learn how to run their business God’s way.

Afterward, one business owner decided he had to go back to his factory, remove all the idols to other gods that his employees had set up and begin offering Bible studies to point them to Jesus.

“For the past 20 years, we have been a stewardship ministry. This is a new season where we are shifting from stewardship to discipleship and deeper as financial disciples of Christ.”

–Johnson Samuel, Compass India President

Overjoyed about the growing hunger for God’s Word in India, Richard Samuel, past Compass India president, said, “God has brought godly people who care for us to teach us financial discipleship.”  As we launched financial discipleship and Building Your Finances God’s Way there, the Lord provided the materials in their local languages, including Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil.

Johnson Samuel, current president of Compass India, described the launch this way: “For the past 20 years, we have been a stewardship ministry. This is a new season where we are shifting from stewardship to discipleship and deeper as financial disciples of Christ.”

More than 250 pastors and non-governmental organization ministry leaders across four cities have now been trained on leading a Compass financial discipleship study.

During our time, a businessman from Chennai, India, shared his testimony:

Faced with mounting debt, he had little to no means of servicing it as his business was financially overextended and had not grown as expected. Facing bankruptcy, he was living in fear and had no hope. Thoughts of suicide were starting to emerge as the final solution.

But the Lord intervened and led a friend to invite him to a Compass financial discipleship Bible study, and the Holy Spirit began to work on his heart and provide real biblical hope.

Today, he attributes God using the Compass study to save his life…

Wherever Compass is launched, the response is, “This is a new teaching. This is necessary in my country. How do I get involved?”

The demand for God’s truth on money and possessions continues to increase exponentially among future financial discipleship leaders. They desire to read, study and learn what God’s Word says about money and how to apply it to their lives.

Please continue to pray for these new leaders, for God’s provision in their lives and for opportunities to share with others.
