Update From Howard 12/5

Dear Friends,

As I mentioned is my last blog, I learned the painful way on Thanksgiving day that I had a very large kidney stone that had started its journey down from the kidney. I am scheduled to have surgery this morning (Monday) to remove it and would covet your prayers . . . fortunately, they knock you out for this procedure 🙂

A couple of years ago when I was seeking the Lord’s direction on whether to start Compass, He spoke clearly to me through Isaiah 43:18-19 which says, “Do not call to mind for the former things, or ponder the things of the past. Behold, I [the Lord] am going to do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it. I will even make a roadway in the wilderness and rivers in the dessert.” When you examine that passage closely, the real focus is on the word “I”. The Lord alone said that He was going to do something new, and that no obstacle was going to be too difficult for Him to overcome to accomplish His purpose. There is no—zero—room for pride on our part, because it’s solely the Lord who is accomplishing it.

We recently learned about one of those new things that is springing forth: Our 30 minute call-in radio program, MoneyWise, is among the four finalist for the National Religious Broadcaster’s “Best Radio Program of the Year!” There is no explanation for this other than the gracious hand of God—especially when you consider that when we started the year we had no plan to do the program. Unexpectedly, an opportunity opened in February and because of the extraordinary generosity of many Christian radio stations, by March we were on the air.

The challenge was that we hadn’t budgeted anything for the cost of producing and airing the program . . . have you ever had those times where He makes it clear you are to step out in faith trusting in God alone? This was one of those for us! The Lord has stretched our faith, but met our needs. As the late Larry Burkett used to say, “God’s never late, but rarely early” 🙂

I want to use this opportunity to thank Steve Moore, the executive producer and co-host of MoneyWise. Steve is a remarkable talent who served as co-host with Larry Burkett for almost 20 years and then with me. The Lord has graciously surrounded us at MoneyWise with skilled producers Rich Roszel, Kent Covington and Johnny Franklin—two of these men previously worked with Steve for almost 20 years.

We are honored beyond words to even be numbered among the finalist for this award. If you want to learn more, check out: NRB Honors 2012 Media Awards Nominees

Isn’t walking with Jesus Christ an adventure! Times of challenge that stretch our faith! Times of undeserved blessing that test our pride! But always we can be in His presence and experience His joy. “In the presence of the Lord is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).

Love in Jesus,
